_Understanding

What we do

As the parent of a Deaf of Hard of Hearing child, it is natural to have concerns and questions about supporting them as they grow. The Children and Family Team are here to give you all the information and help you need to ensure that your Deaf or Hard of Hearing child reaches their full potential. Deafness or hearing loss is not in itself a barrier to learning, so we focus on giving you the specialist information you need to support your child’s development in important areas such as language, reading and social skills.

We also provide practical advice on government entitlements and liaise with schools, visiting teachers, families, audiology, speech and language therapists and occupational therapists, referring some parents and children on to other specialist services if it is needed.

_Get involved with

Children and family events

Meeting other parents of Deaf or Hard of Hearing children can be a great way to find support. Sharing experiences and stories can be reassuring. For children with hearing loss and their siblings, meeting others who are on the same journey can be empowering. At Chime we encourage all of our clients to get involved in our community and we host local and national events to connect you with other families on the same journey. You are welcome to come and meet other families at activities that include our twice yearly Newly Diagnosed Weekends, educational webinars, online workshops and a wide variety of camps and social events for children, families and young people. To find our full schedule of family events and workshops, check out our News and Events page.
