0 0 Dublin Zoo Launches ISL Zookeeper Talks in Collaboration with Chime Monday 29 September 2025 Dublin Zoo has taken an exciting step towards accessibility by launching a series of zookeeper talks available in Irish Sign Language (ISL), in partnership with Chime, the national charity supporting Deaf and Hard of Hearing people. The launch took place on Thursday, 25th September, as part of International Week of Deaf People 2025, with Chime clients and families attending a special in-person experience with the Asian elephants. Visitors can now enjoy the ISL-interpreted talks by scanning QR codes located at selected animal habitats, including the Asian lion, red panda, California sea lion, Humboldt penguin, Southern white rhinoceros, and Asian elephants. The videos feature detailed information about the animals and their habitats, delivered by Dublin Zoo’s Animal Care Teams and interpreted in ISL with support from Chime. Danielle McLaughlin, Director of Advocacy and Communications at Chime, added: “We are proud to work with Dublin Zoo to break down barriers and make every experience accessible for Deaf and hard of hearing people. This initiative is an important step in ensuring everyone can enjoy and learn from the zoo’s educational and conservation efforts.” The ISL zookeeper talks are now live and available to all visitors, marking a significant milestone in creating a fully inclusive zoo experience.
